In Burkina Faso, Benin and Togo, agriculture is the main source of income for the poorest populations and the pillar of food security. This sector employs more than half of the population and represents a major share of the GDP of the 3 countries.
The development of irrigation is one of the most effective factors in increasing the production capacity of small-scale market gardening. Women are the most affected by water chores and the lack of accessibility of irrigation solutions adapted to small farms.
In response to this situation, the SISAM (Improved Solar Irrigation Solution) project plans to co-build and disseminate a solution in each country to improve access to irrigation for small market garden areas on the following levels: Technical optimization, Financial accessibility, Maintenance, Environmental impact
