- Identify promising innovations for agricultural development and water management in the oasis and arid zones of the Maghreb;
- To design, with local stakeholder groups, a method for analysing these innovations, which may include experimentation. With these groups, characterise the potential of these innovations and identify the conditions for their adoption and dissemination;
- Strengthen the capacities of actors, particularly young rural women and men involved with family farms, and their sustainable connection to agricultural and rural innovation systems.

The oasian and arid areas of the Maghreb are facing major changes that affect society in general, such as, for example, the increase in mobility. The agricultural sector is particularly affected by the development of modern forms of agriculture alongside more traditional forms. These changes are sources of development opportunities, but also of risks in terms of the sustainability of this development, such as the unsustainable use of soil and water, the decline in biodiversity, and the increase in social inequalities. The MASSIRE project (2019-2023) is funded by IFAD and academic partners. It aims to strengthen the capacities of actors in the oasian and arid areas of the Maghreb to develop and implement innovations allowing a sustainable development of these territories
