Fight against Covid-19 : World Water Council expresses solidarity with Senegal

As part of the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic, the World Water Council has contributed by supplying Marseille soap to Senegal. Water and soap are the first barrier to protect against the spread of the coronavirus Covid-19 and that is why the World Water Council has chosen to provide the poorest with soap, in order to underline the importance of this essential hygiene gesture.
Thus, two batches of 37,800 soaps produced in Dakar were officially handed over to the Ministry of Water and Sanitation and the Dakar City Hall. During the ceremony organized on 24 April 2020, in the presence of Abdoulaye Sène, Executive Secretary of the 9th World Water Forum, Mamadou DIA, Governor of the World Water Council, representing President Loic Fauchon, emphasized the fact that the city of Dakar will host the Forum in March 2021 within the framework of a partnership between the State of Senegal and the World Water Council. He stressed the commitment of Minister Serigne Mbaye Thiam to ensure that the Forum will be a resounding success.

The donation illustrates the commitment of Loic Fauchon, President of the World Water Council for Senegal. "He asked me to tell you that his thoughts are with the Senegalese people and expresses the wish that Senegal will overcome this ordeal by relying on its enormous resources", added Mamadou DIA.

Minister Serigne Mbaye Thiam expressed his thanks to fauchon loic president and to the World Water Council for this highly appreciated gesture which will allow to respect the barrier gesture of washing hands with soap and water. ‘’This donation, the Minister continued, is in addition to the one offered to the city of Dakar by the World Water Council and illustrates President Loic Fauchon's solidarity with Senegal. We renew our commitment to do everything possible to ensure that the 9th World Water Forum is effective and that of responses''. This gesture of solidarity is part of the raison d'être of the World Water Council, whose mission is to raise awareness at all levels of decision-making on the importance of access to water for all.

The handing over of another batch of soap to the City Hall of Dakar took place on 10 April 2020. On this occasion, Mrs. Soham El Wardini, Mayor of the city expressed her thanks to President Loic Fauchon for a gesture full of symbols. Dakar is indeed twinned with Marseille where the World Water Council headquarters are located and the Senegalese capital is engaged in the preparation of the World Water Forum. The mayor of Dakar said that the batch of soap arrives at the right time and will be very useful in the fight against Covid-19.
