A partnership agreement was signed in Diamniadio between the Executive Secretariat of the 9th World Water Forum and USAID. This is the result of fruitful exchanges between the USAID and Executive Secretariat teams and an important milestone in the cooperation between Senegal and the United States of America in the field of water and sustainable development.
For Mr. Abdoulaye Sène, Executive Secretary of the Forum, the partnership agreement is particularly important because it marks the support of USAID, which is one of the major actors on the international scene for actions to improve the health conditions of the population, the development and inclusion of the private sector, the improvement of agricultural production for food security and poverty reduction.
USAID's support for the 9th World Water Forum is all the more justified since this event aims to be the Forum of concrete answers, which will make it possible to improve access to water and sanitation for populations, especially those in disadvantaged areas. This fits perfectly with USAID's vision, which has been working for decades for inclusive human development, particularly in Africa, Asia and Latin America.
Mr. Peter Trenchard, Director of USAID in Senegal, praised Senegal's leadership in the water sector and all the efforts made by the government of Senegal to improve water and sanitation services in the country. Mr. Trenchard emphasized that it is because of these efforts that USAID has chosen Senegal as a privileged partner in its collaborations.
He congratulated Senegal for organizing the 9th World Water Forum, the first in sub-Saharan Africa, and expressed USAID's commitment to supporting the preparatory and organizational process of the Forum.
USAID's contribution to the Forum is expected to be in the thematic animation, notably through the organisation of High Level Panels and/or Side Events, the mobilisation of stakeholders, notably those from North America, the organisation of the Exhibition, notably the Path of responses, African Village, Sanitation Village, etc.
