The promotion of the Forum and the mobilisation of actors from all over the world is continuing. In this context, a high-level delegation visited Tajikistan, Turkey and Egypt. In these different countries, the authorities and members of the water community have committed themselves to contributing to the success of Dakar 2022.
- Central Asia Regional Preparatory Conference towards the Forum in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, 18-20 October 2021. This was an opportunity to share information on the state of preparation of the Forum, to identify the synergies of actions to be developed, particularly in terms of communication, sharing and dissemination of information; to exchange with the countries, institutions and actors of Central Asia on the axes of collaboration, political mobilisation and their scientific and technical contribution to the Forum; to sign a partnership protocol as a strategic and political support to the Forum and the Dushanbe Water Process, as key steps in the preparation of the major UN Water Conference in 2023. - A delegation led by the Minister of Water and Sanitation of Senegal, Mr. Serigne Mbaye Thiam, visited Turkey from 20 to 22 October 2021 and took advantage of its stay to share Turkish experiences and achievements in the field of water and sanitation, to exchange on investment and partnership opportunities, but above all to mobilise Turkish stakeholders towards the 9th World Water Forum. The latter affirmed their availability to fully support Senegal and to take part in the Forum, by significantly mobilising Turkish public and private actors and by supporting the logistics of the organisation of Dakar 2022.
- 4th Cairo Water Week from 23 to 28 October 2021. A delegation led by the Minister of Water and Sanitation of Senegal, Mr Serigne Mbaye Thiam, took part in the event. The purpose of the mission was to participate in high-level exchanges, to share Senegal's achievements in the field of water and to sign the Protocol of partnership around international water-related events. The Senegalese participation was also used to present the progress of the Forum and to share Senegal's holistic vision of how to address water issues and challenges in order to accelerate the achievement of all the SDGs.
- 17th Congress of the International Water Resource Association (IWRA). The Executive Secretariat of the 9th World Water Forum, led by the Minister of Water and Sanitation, took part in the Congress of the IWRA, a strategic partner of the "Dakar 2022" Forum, from 29 November to 3 December 2021 in Daegu, Korea. Under the theme: "Foundations of Global Water Security and Resilience: Knowledge, Technologies and Policies", this Congress which is part of the "On the Road to Dakar" events, is in line with the orientations of the 9th Forum. Organised jointly with the Ministry of Environment of the Republic of Korea, the City of Daegu, K-water and the Korean Water Resources Association, the objective of the World Water Congress is to share experiences, promote discussion and present new developments in the field of water sciences.
Four highlights marked Senegal's participation in the Congress: (1) the message from the Minister of Water and Sanitation at the Opening Ceremony of the Congress, (2) the organisation of a special session on the 9th World Water Forum, (3) the participation in a high-level panel, and (4) the working session with the Congress Organising Committee to exchange lessons learned, particularly in the context of the pandemic.
In the margins of the Congress, the Executive Secretary of the 9th World Water Forum had a meeting with the Mayor of the City of Daegu, with whom he exchanged views on the city's participation in the Forum, particularly in the segment dedicated to local authorities. He also took part in the 14th meeting of the Board of Directors of the Asian Water Council, thus launching a call for a large participation of Asian countries in the Forum. The "Daegu Declaration", encourages the multi-stakeholder and decompartmentalized approach advocated by the Dakar Forum, with a view to promoting innovative responses to ensure sustainable resilience and water security worldwide.
