On the occasion of World Water Day, celebrated on Monday 22 March 2021, Senegal and the World Water Council announced the first batch of 17 water and sanitation projects certified by the " Initiative Dakar 2022 ". These projects come from 4 continents (Africa, Asia, North America and Europe) and cover a wide range of topics related to the Four priorities of the Forum as well as the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
This is the first list of certifications that will be followed by others. Projects that have already been submitted and are not included in this first list are not eliminated. The international jury will continue the work of studying and evaluating projects and will, if necessary, solicit certain candidates for more information about their projects.
In light of the postponement of the Forum to 21-26 March 2022, the Initiative Dakar 2022 process continues. The call for projects remains open and project holders on water and sanitation from all regions are encouraged to continue to apply for certification.
The Initiative Dakar 2022 is a major innovation of the 9th World Water Forum that will promote relevant projects with strong social, economic and environmental impact on beneficiary populations.
